KATHERINE ARMACOST - ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My work is directed by nature of course,  and by history,  architecture,  dreams,  headlines,  accidents,  everything I come in contact with.  I love the process of painting,  the brushing,  layering,  scraping and dripping.  I like to explore the ambiguities of whites and grays,  and punctuate the conversation with color.  Most often I don’t have a fixed idea,  but like to bring to the work all the contradictions,  doubt and humor of the day.  I make decisions and change my mind.  I talk to work in the past as I push to somewhere I haven’t been.  Success is relative.  My goal is to discover and vivify the dialogue.
